Från vision till verklighet. Om MusikBojen och musikterapi på svenska barnsjukhus

Abstract

Only a handful music therapists are working in children’s hospitals in Sweden. In the last five years the numbers have increased thanks to MusikBojen, a fund-raising volunteer organization which finances music therapists for children and adolescents both in hospitals and in child- and youth care. Previous research suggests that implementing music therapy in children’s hospitals is challenging and takes time. This article presents and thematizes the experiences from two music therapists employed at children’s hospitals with the financial support from MusikBojen. Their narratives confirm the notion that there are challenges, but also distinct success factors facilitated by the support from an organization such as MusikBojen, building relationships with the staff and being able to participate fully in the planning and care.
